You can train your dog to stay off the couch by claiming your space. Easy, quick and simple.

When your dog approaches the sofa blocking you so that your dog can not go up on the couch. Be consistent. The energy level must be low. Get the dog to sit on the floor beside the couch and give it a treat so that your dog connects beeing at the floor with something positive. Remember that you must be consistent with not allowing your dog on your couch.

Dog bed
You should also consider buying a dog bed that you can put in the living room, a place in the living room where the dog likes to lie (except in the couch of course).

Exercise and walks
Also be sure your dog gets enough exercise and walks, this will lower the dog’s restlessness when you are away from home.

Keep in mind that your dog is a dog after all, not a human. Dogs are all about living in the moment, even old habits may be broken.

Remember that some dog breeds can be very persistent.

Please stay away from electrical collars and sprays.

Do you have a new dog in your house or doesn’t your dog want to lie in the dog bed? This is how your dog get a favourite place in your home.

If you already have a dog bed in your home but your dog does not want to lie in the dog bed, remove the dog bed today, or even better; right now. Then you follow the steps as you have not had any dog bed in your home earlier.

These are the steps to how your dog gets a favourite place in your home:

Keep track of where your dog lies down when it wants to rest or sleep. Please note that this will vary depending on where the family is in the house. You can have multiple dog beds in various rooms

Place the dog bed at the one place where the dog lies down and your family stays most

Add soft blankets, duvets and pillows in the dog bed. Dogs love this.

Spend time with your dog in the first period, for example when you watch TV. Sit next to the dog bed and cuddle with the dog. Give a treat or bone when it is in the dog bed.

Please note that if your dog prefers to lie under the table at your feet, you should respect this.
