You can train your dog to stay off the couch by claiming your space. Easy, quick and simple.
When your dog approaches the sofa blocking you so that your dog can not go up on the couch. Be consistent. The energy level must be low. Get the dog to sit on the floor beside the couch and give it a treat so that your dog connects beeing at the floor with something positive. Remember that you must be consistent with not allowing your dog on your couch.

You should also consider buying a dog bed that you can put in the living room, a place in the living room where the dog likes to lie (except in the couch of course).
Exercise and walks
Also be sure your dog gets enough exercise and walks, this will lower the dog’s restlessness when you are away from home.
